Lower Lamphey Park

History

Lower Lamphey Park was part of the Lamphey estate and has had a chequered history. It was originally built in 1812 for the land agent who managed the estate on behalf of the squire. It was built in a commanding position in what was once the deer park of Lamphey Bishop's Palace. It was a fine house suitable for the needs of a gentleman farmer.

However, needs changed and the house became redundant. It had a variety of uses including becoming a convent and orphanage before finally falling into disrepair and becoming derelict. It is listed in the 'Lost Houses of Wales'.

Lower Lamphey Park was repaired and renovated in the 1990's once again became a private residence. It was bought by the present owners in 2003 who have converted the house into a guest house and are continuing the process of restoration.

Location and Grounds

Lower Lamphey Park set in agricultural land about ¼ mile from the 'Ridgeway' road. We are normally surrounded by sheep, cattle and horses which creates a truly rural environment.

We have approximately eight acres of our own land including paddocks, our garden and an old walled garden which is awaiting restoration.

The garden provides space to walk and relax, with some secluded areas under the old oak trees. Landscaping will continue in 2005 to create a new flower and vegetable garden and a croquet lawn.

Amenities

Guests have full use of our terrace and gardens and are welcome to visit our animals. There are also some pleasant rural walks in the vicinity of Lower Lamphey Park .

The village of Lamphey is less than a mile away with its parish church, pub, convenience store and a selection of restaurants.

Pets

Our dining room overlooks the old paddock which is home to our two pet sheep - Lowis and Myrtle - who have lived here for more than ten years. Lowis surprised us all this year by producing twin lambs.

The new paddocks will be used to raise Welsh ponies.
